In France, government-funded channels carry advertisements, yet those who own television sets have to pay an annual tax ("la redevance audiovisuelle"). [196]

In Japan, is paid for by license fees (known in Japanese as reception fee ( 受信料 , Jushinryō ) ). The broadcast law that governs NHK's funding stipulates that any television equipped to receive NHK is required to pay. The fee is standardized, with discounts for office workers and students who commute, as well a general discount for residents of Okinawa prefecture.

Broadcast programming, or TV listings in the United Kingdom, is the practice of organizing television programs in a schedule, with broadcast automation used to regularly change the scheduling of TV programs to build an audience for a new show, retain that audience, or compete with other broadcasters' programs.

Television has played a pivotal role in the socialization of the 20th and 21st centuries. There are many aspects of television that can be addressed, including negative issues such as Sneaker JM11 Rust Blackstone 2vscju
. Current research is discovering that individuals suffering from social isolation can employ television to create what is termed a parasocial or faux relationship with characters from their favorite television shows and movies as a way of deflecting feelings of loneliness and social deprivation. [197] Several studies have found that educational television has many advantages. The article "The Good Things about Television" [198] argues that television can be a very powerful and effective learning tool for children if used wisely.

Virtually all executives today recognize the need to provide outstanding service to customers. Focusing on the customer, however, is both an imperative and a potential curse. In their desire to become customer driven, many companies have resorted to inventing new programs and procedures to meet every customer’s request. But as customers and their needs grow increasingly diverse, such an approach has become a surefire way to add unnecessary cost and complexity to operations.

Companies throughout the world have embraced mass customization in an attempt to avoid those pitfalls and provide unique value to their customers in an efficient manner. Readily available information technology and flexible work processes permit them to customize goods or services for individual customers in high volumes and at a relatively low cost. But many managers at these companies have discovered that mass customization, too, can produce unnecessary cost and complexity. They are realizing that they did not examine thoroughly enough what kind of customization their customers would value before they plunged ahead with this new strategy. That is understandable. Until now, no framework has existed to help managers determine the type of customization they should pursue.

We have identified four distinct approaches to customization, which we call collaborative , adaptive , cosmetic , and transparent . When designing or redesigning a product, process, or business unit, managers should examine each of the approaches for possible insights into how best to serve their customers. In some cases, a single approach will dominate the design. More often, however, managers will discover that they need a mix of some or all of the four approaches to serve their own particular set of customers.

Phase I: Members profiles and group formation

During this initial getting-to-know phase, the Monterey and Giessen members each formed local groups in their respective countries. Next, they exchanged profiles with their counterparts in the other country to form a transatlantic group.

Phase II: Negotiation of topic of website, sub-group formation and division of

tasks In this phase, transatlantic groups negotiated a topic for their website, split

up into sub-groups, and divided up the tasks among group members. The final

product, i.e., the website, contained a CMC module with links to the relevant

literature and email project samples. Groups were encouraged to design a module that would be useful in their own future language teaching.

The Literature Group , chose to design tasks for an intercultural email project between English learners in Germany and learners of German in the U.S. ( colour block clutch Blue JWAnderson MdvhK

The author chose this name for the group because they had decided to integrate young adult literature into their contribution for the website. More specifically, this group’s email project aimed at using the book A Cab Called Reliable by Patti Kim as the basis for an intercultural exchange among students. In this novel, a Korean girl who newly immigrated to the US, struggles to surpass the chaos of a strange land and of a violent, overly stressed family. The Literature Group also included different pre-/while-/post-reading activities and a section on book recommendations for using young adult literature in CMC-based language teaching. The Giessen student teachers compiled the groups’ modules for the final product, i.e., the website, and published them on the Internet.

Phase III: Peer feedback and reflection on learning process

During this stage, local groups in Giessen and Monterey provided peer feedback on in-class presentations by the other local groups. Additionally, participants wrote essays in which they reflected critically on their own learning processes.

3.3 Grounded Theory and an Action Research approach

3.3.1 Data collection

The status of the researcher in this study was that of a course designer (in collaboration with both the Monterey and the Giessen teacher educators) and participating observer in Giessen. Consequently, most of the data was collected in Giessen. In addition, the data from Monterey was limited to written data due to logistical reasons. Participant observation has been defined as "a field strategy that simultaneously combines document analysis, interviewing of respondents and informants, direct participation and observation, and introspection" (Denzin 1989: 157-158). This kind of observation is a process involving the following two aspects. First, the researcher participates increasingly and gains access to the field and to the people involved in the research. Second, the researcher’s observation gradually becomes more concrete and the researcher increasingly focuses on the essential aspects of the research (Flick 2002: 140). In this study, the Giessen teacher educator and the researcher had developed the goals and objectives for both the collaboration and the group projects (e.g., the nature of the tasks and possible topics). In her role as participating observer (e.g., Denzin 1989), the researcher took field notes, team-taught, and facilitated group work. More specifically, the researcher and the Giessen teacher educator commonly decided prior to each session what they were going to cover. The researcher also introduced the FirstClass® software.

The U.S. government currently recommends that adults squeeze in 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week, or 75 minutes of vigorous activity, plus two days a week of "muscle strengthening activities" like weight lifting or calisthenics. Across the board, the number of Americans between the ages of 18 and 64 who actually meet that recommendation hovers at around 23 percent, but some states are much more physically active than others. (Men were also more likely to meet the recommendation than women, and working people were more likely than non-working people to get the recommended amounts of exercise.) The map below draws on data from the 2010 to 2015 National Health Interview Surveys, part of which included questions about exercise habits.

Age-adjusted percentages of adults aged 18–64 who met federal guidelines for physical activity from 2010-2015
National Center of Health Statistics

Some of the states with the highest rates of exercise are ones we already associate with health and outdoor activity. California, for instance, scores relatively high, with 24 percent of adults meeting the guidelines. Colorado has the highest percentage, at 32.5 percent. Meanwhile, the South, a region already associated with high rates decoup trousers Black CEDRIC JACQUEMYN QwLWjXWnB
and poor public health, has some of the lowest activity rates, including 13.5 percent in Mississippi.

It's not just a matter of region, though. Much of the Midwest, including Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri, is at or slightly above the national average, while South Dakota is far below average. New York has a very low activity rate (18.9 percent) while next door, Pennsylvania has a much higher rate of 25.6 percent.

Even in more active states, these numbers may look exceedingly low. If—at the very best—less than a third of adults get enough exercise, that's bad news. But take a few caveats into account before you go judging the entire country as a bunch of couch potatoes. These are broad recommendations, and don't necessarily reflect everyone's health needs; people who are injured, disabled, or chronically ill, for example, aren't going to be able to go for hour-long runs every week, and they shouldn't.

Plus, there are some gaps in this data. The survey relates specifically to leisure time exercise, meaning that it can't reflect the full activity levels of people who have physically demanding jobs. If you're a door-to-door canvasser who walks all day, a yoga teacher, or a UPS driver who lugs boxes around, the bulk of your physical activity might not happen in your down time, but that doesn't mean you're not exercising. Commute time doesn't count as leisure, either, so the results don't factor in the exercise you might get if you bike or walk to work each day.

That said, there is plenty of other evidence that Americans spend too much time in Wave medium backpack Blue Tods Z5Eok9VE9
and in front of screens and not enough time moving. The problem is just much worse in Indiana than in Colorado.
